Tully Wren Tornado

Author: Brian, 02 27th, 2008

On February 26th around 5:45am I was woken by a typical Georgia thunderstorm. Since our house always seem to attract electricity I decided to unplug the computers and tv’s. Then I watched out a window for a minute as lightning danced across the sky and rain started to pour down. It looked like a normal thunder storm. Then the wind started to pickup and the trees started to bend slightly more than usual. I heard a low rumble in the background and then out of no where came a huge gust of wind plastered the rain against the window. I watched for a couple more seconds and then a chill went up my spine telling me something was different about this storm.

The house started to shake and the floor vibrated under my feet as I ran downstairs to get Kristen (and the cats) into the basement. You could hear objects being throw up against the house, big cracks of thunder or at the time was probably trees snapping all around me. I ran downstairs and just as I opened the bedroom door glass shattered from a nearby window and a loud cracking followed by a big bang shook the house. I thought the whole house was collapsing on top of us. I grabbed Kristen and headed into the basement. As soon as we got down there, everything was silent, except for a little bit of rain. We waiting another minute and then I decided to check it out. I grabbed a flashlight and rain jacket and headed up stairs.

I couldn’t see a thing. I opened the front door expecting to see a tree across the front porch but instead all I saw were shingles in my face. I thought to my self what roof is this, is this the top of the house, then I realized it was the porch roof. With the front door blocked I headed back to the basement and went outside and that’s when I noticed a huge tree across the driveway and on top of Kristen’s car. What the heck just happened here? The sun started to rise revealing more and more damage that the storm had left behind. I’ve never experienced anything like it in my life. In a matter of minutes the winds had torn through our neighborhood leaving a trail of disaster. Thankfully everyone in our neighborhood was okay, and it appears we were lucky compared to alot of other people. Here are a couple pictures of the aftermath.

Open the door and come on in.

Reminiscing of Alaska 2004

Author: Brian, 02 21st, 2008

Today, a couple of us were reminiscing of our Alaska trip back in 2004. It started with Malcolm needing a couple details for a soon to be posted adventure article he was writing. Then it snowballed into sending pictures back and forth, and now after 4 years I’ve finally put the videos online, see below. The video doesn’t do the trip and surroundings justice but you’ll get the idea, it gets more interesting towards the end when we start shooting shotguns point blank into the water. Maybe in another 4 years I’ll post the photos but let’s not get our hopes up.
